Being a wedding godmother is an honor. Here are the most common roles and how to prepare.

Godmother types

• Lasso and arras (coins) (very common in Mexico).
• Candle/veil, Bible/rosary and bouquet.
• For civil/symbolic ceremonies: vows or ceremony godmother.

Duties before & during

• Coordinate with the couple and the officiant/planner.
• Carry and safeguard items (lasso, arras, Bible/rosary, bouquet).
• Assist with processional/recessional and family photos.

Etiquette & attire

• Confirm palette/dress code; avoid white/ivory.
• Comfortable shoes if there are steps or cobblestones.
• Short, heartfelt speech if requested.

Gifts

• Symbolic keepsake aligned to the ceremony (cross, rosary, frame).
• A letter or written blessing for the couple.
